LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS
• Landscape architecture is a profession that is regulated by individual state governments. For a landscape architect, obtaining licensure requires advanced education and work experience, plus passage of the national examination. Several states require passage of a state exam as well. Consequently, a landscape architect is an educated and trained professional who has passed a series of exams to become registered, thereby earning the title Landscape Architect or “RLA”.
• Landscape architects are trained in design. A well designed project will add to the value of your home and increase your enjoyment of the spaces.
• Are highly trained in the science of soils, hydrology, grading and drainage, ecology, and sound construction practices.
• Have a good knowledge of plants and their specific requirements. In addition to being a registered landscape architect I am also a Massachusetts certified horticulturist and a certified arborist.
• Have a good knowledge of materials and construction techniques. Can coordinate with the sub contractors and other professionals to work within your budget and time frame.
• Can visit your project during construction to help ensure the design is being built according to the plans and specifications.
• A well designed landscape plan can be built more cost efficient.
• According to a paper by Virginia Tech a good landscape can increase your property value up to 12.7%. The most important factor in adding to the value is if the landscape is well done and the plantings are mature (*Boston Globe article).
